Top Hat is an old-school two-dimensional platformer, which will be created by a two-person N94 Games studio, founded by high school graduate Nikodem Szewczyk. The game made its successful debut at the European Game Festival Digital Dragons, winning the award for the best independent production.
In the game we play the role of an eccentric collector of old headgear, in whose house appears a mysterious seller with an offer to sell a very rare, made of gold cylinder fabric. Using his fascination with the unusual specimen, the guest insidiously poisons our hero, who wakes up after some time imprisoned in strange dungeons. Our protagonist decides to find a mysterious individual in order to take revenge and at the same time get the golden cylinder he wants. In order to do so, however, he must first get out of the full traps and the dangers of sows.
The mechanics of the game refers to classic platformers from the 90's in the style of Super Mario, Contry and production from the Pegasus console, on which the author of the game grew up. Armed with a pistol, we travel through the stages of dungeons, avoiding more and more sophisticated traps and eliminating hostile enemies. From time to time, more demanding bosses also stand in our way. The game is not the easiest and is dedicated to hardcore players. In contrast to many modern productions, where in order to renew the energy, it is enough to hide behind the cover for a moment - in Top Hat it is not difficult to die, and we can rather forget about medical first-aid kits.
The game was prepared with the help of Game Maker, and its old-school, pixel-art graphics resembles the popular Terraria. Our struggles are accompanied by sound effects and music, prepared by the second member of N94 Games, Mateusz Szymanski.
