Tony Tough 2: A Rake's Progress is a sequel, or basically a prequel to Tony Tough and the Night of Roasted Moths, a two-dimensional adventure game referring to the visual setting and point & click interface of classic programs of the genre. The protagonist of the first part was the detective Tony Tough, which is no different for the two as well. However, the only difference is that the action takes place here several dozen years before the plot of the original, i.e. in 1953, when Tony was 13 years old and attended primary school in his hometown. Tony Tough 2's plot is very confusing and intricate, and tells the story of the first real detective character's case. Tony's efforts are aimed at finding the kidnapped housekeeper, Cornelia Cook - an African-American and niece of Florence Cook - the owner of a recently plundered local rupee shop, and at discovering the secrets associated with the Roswell affair and the landing of aliens and old Indian beliefs, among others. It is also impossible not to mention the black, ironic type of humour in this production.

The game went through a real "revolution" in the field of visuals. Hand-drawn 2D graphics known from the previous part, reminiscent of Lucas Arts' adventures from the first half of the 90's, were replaced by very nice, high-resolution 3D graphics, created in the Art Deco style. During the whole adventure we travel through 30 locations (including a school, hospital or city centre), and in each of them we see the effects of shading and illumination of the surface or change of weather conditions in the case of open spaces. There are also about 20 characters associated with the story. The game is also full of animated interludes.

The interface is still a classic point & click, with improvements and a more intuitive interface to the one known from Tony Tough and the Night of Roasted Moths. The character of the game remained the same, so we have here typical for adventure games, conversations with characters encountered and puzzles such as take an object, set an object, use an object, and so on.
