Tomb Raider: The Last Revelation Description
Lara Croft is a character every adventure games fan knows. In the fourth instalment of the Tomb Raider series, Core Design – the developer studio – made sure that the female equivalent of Indiana Jones looks even better and meets even deadlier enemies.
Plot
The action takes place in two locations. The Cambodian temple called Angkor Wat serves merely as a warm-up and simultaneously introduces one of Lara’s main opponents – doctor Werner Von Croy. The major part of the plot in Tomb Raider 4: The Last Revelation takes place in Egypt and concerns a discovery of an ancient temple where once Seth was imprisoned. By chance, the main heroine releases the god and thus brings the whole humanity into danger. To save the world from destruction, the beautiful archaeologist has to collect the Armour of Horus and defeat Seth with his help.
Mechanics
In contrast to former instalments of the Tomb Raider series, developers of The Last Revelation put an emphasis on freedom – each location can be visited numerous times in multiple ways and in any order.
The game strongly stresses logic elements, but the backbone of the game stays the same – the arcade elements still prevail. Lara has a whole new range of moves, including swaying on ropes and climbing poles. The arsenal of weapons the sexy adventurer uses includes a revolver, which combined with a laser sight turns into a truly deadly weapon. The ability to combine items is a novelty which allows for modifying Lara’s equipment.
Technical aspects
Tomb Raider 4: The Last Revelation published on PC utilises the power of the graphic engine used already in Tomb Raider III: Adventures of Lara Croft. However, Coders from Core Design went to great lengths and implemented a set of modifications which made the game look even better. Lara’s animations and picturesque locations like Valley of the Kings, Temple of Karnak, Kari, and Giza are very well-developed.
A year after the official release of The Last Revelation, the fifth instalment of the game was published along with a fully-functional map editor for Tomb Raider 4.
