Plot
The action of Tokyo 42 is set in the futuristic version of the eponymous city. We assume the role of a killer who, while performing his lucrative contracts, uncovers a scheme that can change the fate of the world forever.
Mechanics
The action of Tokyo 42 for PC, PS4 and XONE takes place in an open world that we observe from an isometric camera. However, the developers allowed the players to rotate the camera by 90 degrees in any direction which is possible thanks to the fully three-dimensional graphics. As a result, we have no problems with visibility – they were typical of many two-dimensional productions of this type.
While on missions, the killer we control uses a rich arsenal of weapons and gadgets. He can also drive vehicles. Missions are can be completed in different ways. The player can go in with guns blazing, or focus on a more stealthy approach.
The gameplay is enriched by the fact that crowds of ordinary citizens move around the maps. In some cases, it makes completing a task harder, while in others, it is helpful to, for example, shake off a pursuit. The available levels are also patrolled by the law enforcement forces that will try to neutralize us if we break the law within their sight.
Game modes
Tokyo 42 for PC, PS4 and XONE offers both a single player campaign and a multiplayer mode that lets us compete against other players on small, enclosed maps.

God is a Geek: 7 / 10 by Chris White
Whilst some of the gun mechanics don't work as well as they should, there's still lots of missions, customisation, and a cracking electronic soundtrack in the vein of Hotline Miami.
PC Gamer: 69 / 100 by Andy Kelly
An intricate, beautiful playground for some enjoyably open-ended assassinations.
Hardcore Gamer: 3 / 5 by Kyle LeClair
Tokyo 42 has a lot of potential, and moments of greatness where it can deliver satisfying action, but unfortunately gets bogged down by an annoying camera and notable structure issues and technical snafus.
