developer: Kurechii publisher: Kurechii Official website
Tiny Guardians is an unusual game, which combines real-time strategy and tower defense mechanics. The players command a small group of characters they can summon, repelling the attacks of successive waves of monsters. The main goal of the game is to protect Lunalie, a sorceress who travels across the wilds. The Malaysian studio Kurechii is responsible for the game.
Story
Both the scarce plot and the action of the game revolve around the character named Lunalie. A mysterious sorceress with the power to stop the invasion of the forces of darkness, however, she is unable to accomplish her mission of saving the world alone. In order to achieve this goal, she is supported by a variety of heroes, over which we have full control during the game.
Story elements have been reduced to a minimum. The action takes place in an undefined fantasy land, where magic and monsters are nothing special.
Mechanics
The game takes place on subsequent separate locations. During the campaign we undertake missions of repelling waves of enemies and ensuring the safety of Lunalie.
The sorceress is controlled by the AI. She moves around the battlefield and attacks enemies in order to reach a specific target. However, she is unable to hold out alone for too long. For the currency gained by defeating monsters, we can summon hero units, over which we have full control. In real time, we decide where to move, who to attack and what skills to use. The heroes we have summoned play the role of mobile defense towers, replacing the solutions used in classic tower defense titles. Enemies always follow clearly defined paths.
The characters we can summon are unique, each with their own fighting style, equipment, and skills. During battles we gain experience points enabling us to develop the available heroes. Initially, they are not very effective, but as the game progresses, they gain access to more powerful abilities and items. The devs provided a total of 12 different character classes, with four levels of development for each of them.
The dark forces, our opponents, come in 40 different variants, including bosses that require different tactics.
Game modes
Tiny Guardians offers only single-player gameplay. Each board can be completed during an extensive story campaign or in the challenge mode. Regardless of the selected mode, we can play on one of the three available difficulty levels.
Technical aspects
The game was initially available only on mobile devices, but the interest of players contributed to the release of Tiny Guardians on PC.
The visuals is characterized by an eye-friendly hand-drawn style, which seems to copy what we had the opportunity to see, for example, in Kingdom Rush.
