Tiger Knight: Empire War for PC is an MMO game featuring elements of action, real-time strategy and role-playing. The game was developed by NetDragon; it is a free-to-play title that uses microtransactions.
Plot
The game is set in the second century AD, featuring all the largest empires of the period – Rome, the Parthian Empire, the Chinese Han dynasty and the Kushan Empire. The player picks a side and takes on the role of a general who takes part in battles involving hundreds of units.
Mechanics
Tiger Knight: Empire War for PC is played from a third-person view and the gameplay formula employed here was based on two pillars. Spectacular, fast-paced action is the first of them; the player has direct control over their character – one is capable of performing attacks, linking them together into spectacular combos, performing charges, as well as parrying enemy strikes. The player makes use of extensive equipments, including different kinds of armors (cloth, leather, metal) and particular weapons that differ primarily in terms of damage they are capable of dealing. The player's effectiveness during a direct encounter with an opponent depends on the weapon used, the attack technique applied, and the adversary's current armor.
The second pillar the game was based on, is constituted by the strategic aspects. The player is required to command armies in the game, and those are comprised of both regular units (different kinds of them, revealed alongside progression) and adjutants gifted with special abilities. Applying the appropriate tactics is the key to success here, as well as is putting units into formations adequate to the topography of the battlefield. The experience is complemented by development of combat-related capabilities – the game offers ten phases of upgrades, acquired through gaining experience and prestige, recruiting adjutants, training combat abilities and learning new formations.
Game modes
Tiger Knight: Empire War for PC comprises different game modes. The Command Mode is based on battles for up to 14 players, each having one adjutant and 40 soldiers at their disposal. Two armies of 200 soldiers each at maximum can take part in a skirmish, either in the Siege or Conquest mode. Furthermore, the game brings the Duel Mode, which is based on direct encounters of generals that represent the players in the game world. In the Epic War mode, the player participates in a full-spectrum war against the AI; team cooperation is the key to victory in this case.
Technical aspects
The game utilizes the Unreal Engine 3, offering high-quality 3D visuals. What is also worth mentioning, is the soundtrack created by Hitoshi Sakimoto, who was also behind the music in Final Fantasy Tactics and Final Fantasy XII.
