Throne of Lies: Medieval Politics Description
Throne of Lies: The Online Game of Deceit is a multiplayer title combining elements of strategy games and RPG. The title was developed by the independent team Imperium42 Game Studio, and the source of inspiration for its devs were social role-playing games like Mafia or Werewolf. The project was developed, among other things, thanks to a successful crowdfunding action.
Plot
In Throne of Lies: The Online Game of Deceit we find ourselves in a fantasy kingdom, in which the war for influence is fought by three divided factions - the Blue Dragon group, the ominous Cult, and the mysterious Invisibles. Before starting the game, we are randomly assigned to one of these factions or one of the neutral groups, and our task is primarily to take care of the interests of a given faction and eliminate its opponents.
Mechanics
Throne of Lies: The Online Game of Deceit can be played by up to sixteen players simultaneously, who communicate with each other via text chat. In addition to the factions, the game randomly assigns us one of the professions diversified in terms of available skills.
The game, during which we observe the action from predefined shots, was divided into two stages, depending on the time of day. Under the cover of night, the loyal heroes gather together to look through the clues and use them to identify traitors, while the others can not only plan further wicked moves but also eliminate inconvenient players. After sunrise, however, a vote is held in order to select the unfortunate person to be sent to execution (whose appearance depends on the weaponry leased by the executioner). Then the villains can demonstrate their manipulation skills to save their allies from death; to this end, they can gag their opponents, change their spoken words, and even force them to switch sides. Things are complicated by the fact that although the members of Cult and the Invisibles know very well who is in their ranks, the representatives of the Blue Dragon group must guess this. As if that wasn't enough, the ruler himself may also belong to one of these factions.
The game comes to an end when the rule of law succeeds in exterminating all enemies or when Cult or Invisibles manage to take control of the kingdom.
Technical aspects
Throne of Lies: The Online Game of Deceit features simple, three-dimensional visuals adopting cartoonish style.
