The Wreck is a narrative adventure game dealing with difficult life themes. It was developed by The Pixel Hunt, an independent studio whose portfolio includes the unique Bury Me, My Love.
Plot
The protagonist of The Wreck is Junon, a 36-year-old screenwriter whose professional career and personal life hang in the balance. When her mother is hospitalized in a critical condition, the protagonist has to survive the most important day of her life, trying to deal with her past and put all her affairs in order.
Game mechanics
The gameplay in The Wreck consists mainly of following the storyline. As we watch flashbacks and gradually learn more about Junon's past and the secrets she's been hiding, we get to know and better understand the problems she's facing. As we gain information, we unlock new dialogue that we can use in numerous conversations to repair Junon's damaged relationships with others. Our actions are important because they determine whether the woman will find peace and hope for a better tomorrow.
Technical aspects
Despite the serious subject matter of The Wreck, the graphic design of this production is kept in a colorful, cartoonish style.

Nindie Spotlight: 8.2 / 10 by Justin Nation
Working through trauma both past and present, this is an emotional journey with unexpected twists and turns
Jump Dash Roll: 7 / 10 by Jessica Eudy
The Wreck is an ambitious game with a twisting web of narrative that, despite a few frustrating gameplay moments, admittedly brought me close to tears by the end. Regardless of any technical issues, a good story about mothers, daughters, and the wrecks our relationships leave behind is always one worth experiencing.
Thumb Culture: 5 / 5
Its approach and delivery of its storytelling feel fresh and unique. Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind is one of my all time favourite movies and this is the video game equivalent of that Charlie Kaufman masterpiece.
