The Tenants

The Tenants is a simulation game that allows us to taste the life of an owner of an apartments for rent. The game was developed by the independent Polish team of Ancient Forge Studio and released by Frozen District.

Mechanics

In The Tenants, the action is shown from the top-down view. The game begins with the purchase of the property and preparing it for rental, which involves carrying out a thorough overhaul and buying appropriate furniture. We still have no choice but to call potential tenants. After choosing the right tenants (at least at first glance), we can take care of observing their lives... and wait for events to unfold, which can take an extremely "interesting" turn over time.

It turns out that not only noisy students can get us into trouble; a good old lady living with a legion of cats can be equally problematic. When things start to get out of control, we will need to take action - while a phone call to our neighbors or a police visit to our apartment during a noisy party does not mean the end of the world, a fire caused by an inattentive tenant can make our lives much more complicated.

However, if we rent out the apartment to the right people, we will start earning money on it over time. We can invest the acquired funds in other properties. The right investments not only return quickly, but also accelerate the increase in the number of zeroes on our account, and thus give us the opportunity to purchase more apartments.

Technical aspects

The graphic design of The Tenants was maintained in a colourful "low poly" style (based on clearly visible polygons).
