God is a Geek: 6 / 10 by Nicola Ardron
The Survivalists is the latest in a crowded genre. Bright visuals can't hide that it is a fairly light experience at present, but there is some enjoyment to be had if you can look past the slightly uncomfortable sub-text of its central mechanic.
ThisGenGaming: 8 / 10 by Justin Oneil
Team17 has become one of my favorite publishers because they always seem to deliver quality games and The Survivalists is no exception. It’s a great little survival game that you can enjoy with friends online or alone with your army of monkeys as I did.
PC Invasion: 7 / 10 by Jason Rodriguez
Interesting and charming in its own way, The Survivalists will keep you entertained in short bursts as you try to complete the main objective and craft items to stay alive. Unfortunately, the AI system of your monkey companions is quite cumbersome and clunky. You'll often find yourself more annoyed than delighted due to all the monkeying around.

The Survivalists Description
The Survivalists is an action adventure game with strategy and survival elements. In the game we try to survive on a dangerous, uninhabited island - we can do it alone or in the company of a few friends. The title was developed and released by the famous Team17 - veterans of the industry responsible for such hits from the 90s as Alien Breed or Worms.
Plot
The action of The Survivalists takes place in the world known from The Escapists series. Players take on the role of survivors who are stuck on a dangerous, deserted island.
Mechanics
In The Survivalists we observe the action from above, from the top-down perspective. The player explores the two-dimensional environment, collects and crafts objects, hunts animals and mythical beasts, and performs a variety of tasks - the latter coming from a character called Mysterious Stranger or found on the seashore. It is worth noting that the locations are generated randomly, so that the game looks a little different each time. On the island we can also find a wide range of different biomes - such as forests, mountains or undergrounds.
An important role is played by the crafting system - we can create both simple items (e.g. improvised weapons) and more advanced elements (shelters, buildings). The monkeys we find on the island can help us at work (but also in combat), provided that we train them beforehand. This solution adds a little more strategic depth to the game.
While playing, we can also explore ancient temples, which we can find on the map. There are valuable treasures waiting inside, but getting to them will not be an easy task.
Game modes
The Survivalists can be played solo or with others. The game offers single-player mode, but we should expect the best fun by playing in online cooperation with three friends.
Technical aspects
The Survivalists features quite simple two-dimensional graphics that can still catch the eye, thanks to their interesting artistic style and well-designed animations. The character and environmental models are quite detailed. It is also worth noting the pleasant, warm palette of colors.
