The Summoning

The Summoning is a representative of games called "hack & slash", which has a lot in common with Diablo released a few years later. The player plays the role of a warrior entrusted with the task of penetrating a huge fortress and eliminating its main occupant - the cruel Shadow Reaver. The gameplay, although it contains RPG elements, boils down mainly to the extermination of a hordes of enemies trying to kill you before you become a serious threat to its master.

The program is built on the same engine as the Veil of Darkness released a year later. So we have a classic isometric projection, the ability to equip our hero with different types of weapons (even two at the same time from the very beginning, which is a great convenience) and several types of attack (the stronger, the greater the delay). We can entrust the process of creating a character to the computer or throw it off our shoulders - the latter solution is of course more advisable. We can choose from six factors (strength, dexterity, endurance, accuracy, talent and magical power), to which we award a certain number of points, at our discretion. In addition, we will take part in a training in the use of weapons and magic. Here we decide which blows will wreak havoc and which type of spells our character will prefer: offensive, defensive or healing. During the journey we will meet both friendly characters who want to talk to us, as well as enemies who, without unnecessary mistakes, start attacking immediately. In the dungeons you will also find a large number of closed doors that can be opened in several ways, a huge number of objects, as well as various levers, collapses and this type of assortment. The labyrinth is huge, consists of several levels and is a challenge. From time to time, someone will assign us a side task, the execution of which has a positive effect on the number of experience points received. However, it is worth remembering all the time about the main goal, namely Shadow Weaver. To get to his chamber, you need to find six elements of the magic seal. As you can easily guess, each of them is located in a different part of the labyrinth, and is well protected by the supporters of Mr. Darkness.

The Summoning is an obligatory item for fans of RPG games, especially those who like products with typical arcade jam. Nice and legible graphics, a good soundtrack and a huge area for exploration are the factors that determine the high quality of this program. It is also an excellent example of the fact that the "hack & slash" genre does not originate from Diablo, as many of you probably think...
