A remastered version of the third person action game with RPG elements, inspired by H.P. Lovecraft's works. The Sinking City Remastered offers a lot of graphical improvements, resulting in the transition to the Unreal Engine 5. This includes new textures, more detailed models, better reflections and support for image scaling technologies like DLSS.
The Sinking City Remastered is an upgraded and improved version of the action-adventure game with RPG elements, originally released in 2019. The source of inspiration for the developers were the works of H.P. Lovecraft. The remaster was created by the developers of the original game, namely the Ukrainian studio Frogwares, also known for the Sherlock Holmes series.
Improvements in the remaster
The Sinking City Remastered stands out from the original mainly due to its refreshed graphic design. The remaster makes use of the Unreal Engine 5. The new technology has allowed developers to include new features and improvements - objects and models are more detailed, textures are in 4K resolution, reflections are improved, and the game supports tech used for image scaling - DLSS, FSR and TSR.
The icing on the cake is the new photo mode, as well as a few gameplay-related conveniences.
Gameplay
In terms of mechanics, The Sinking City Remastered does not introduce major changes. We watch the action from a third-person perspective (TPP) and we explore the titular city with an open structure (on foot, using a boat or in a diving suit). Our job is to conduct investigations, which involve the need to solve puzzles and fight enemies.
Monsters and hostile people stand in our way. We eliminate them using firearms and with the help of traps. As we progress, we develop our character and make choices that determine the further fate of both him and the entire city.
Story
The Sinking City Remastered takes us to the American town of Oakmont from the 1920s. After this place was hit by a flood caused by forces not of this world, detective Charles W. Reed arrives there. The protagonist's task is to solve the mystery associated with these events, as well as to face the madness gradually affecting everyone who resides in this gloomy town.
Technical aspects
The Sinking City Remastered has been made available as a standalone production and as a free update for owners of the original version of the game.
