The seventh and final expansion to the first The Sims series introduces to the Sims world completely new ... magic! After installing The Sims Makin Magic, the Sims have the opportunity to cast a number of various spells, including strengthening feelings or make the neighbors’ lives worse – for example the player can change the neighbor into a frog. The spells can be also useful in everyday responsibilities – for example, spells can be helpful in cooking dinner or cleaning up in the kitchen. The Sims can learn the spells studying family spell book, performing a number of tasks or solving puzzles asked by special new characters called Questing NPC. They can also mix different spells and creating the new ones. However, if something fails, the Sims will have to deal with side effects, for example, the plague of toads and stroke of lightning.

In The Sims Makin Magic there is a new Magic Town, which can be accessed through special portals. In this city, the Sims can train magic, learn new tricks such as levitation, hypnosis, or replacing items in the living helpers and fight a duel – the winner will receive magic coins (called MagiCoins).

Using these coins, the Sims can buy special ingredients, which will help them to create the magic. In the Magic City, the Sims will also find a number of shops with these ingredients and a lot of other places and attractions, such as Fun House, Haunted House, Side Show, Spook Show, Magic Dueling Arena, Magic Trick Table. There are also devices and places where the Sims can go and have some snacks (Popcorn Maker, Cotton Candy Stand and Ghoul-ash Cart) and new items (for example: Wand Charger, Charm Maker, Faerie Toy Box, Magic Crystal, Dragon Nest).

This expansion contains more than 150 new elements and items such as new floors, walls, new characters’ skins, new dishes, new interiors, etc. There are new characters (ghosts, mummies and phantoms), special quests, Mediterranean kitchen décor, the possibility to bake cookies, patties and bread, cultivate vines and then making some fruit liqueur and many other extras associated with the new element of the game world - the magic.
