The Simpsons: Arcade Game Description
The Simpsons: Arcade Game is a traditional 2D beat 'em up game using The Simpsons license. The production, created by Konami, debuted in American arcades in 1990. Soon after this release, the game was released on PC and Commodore 64. For the next twenty years, however, the title lived mainly in the memories of fans and enthusiasts of arcade machines. Only thanks to Backbone Entertainment studio, which prepared the console port, the production was given a new chance to reach new and old players.
Plot
The main goal of The Simpsons: Arcade Game is to save the youngest member of the titular family - Maggie. The girl was kidnapped at the street by Waylon Smithers after she accidentally swallowed a diamond stolen from a jeweler. The other members of the Simpsons family set off in the footsteps of the youngest member. Each of the characters has a unique weapon at their disposal. Bart hits his rivals with his skateboard, Marge strikes with a vacuum cleaner, Lisa uses a skipping rope while Homer fights with his fists and belly.
Mechanics
The game is a classic brawler which uses a typical formula of the genre but does not contain (due to its age) complex combos and attacks. The fights take place on a small part of the terrain - once we deal with all enemies, the screen moves to the left and more enemies appear on the map. Each of the eight stages ends with a boss fight. To defeat them, we have to use a slightly different strategy. Locations and enemies are taken straight out of the animated original.
While the PC version provided entertainment for two players on the same screen, the console version allows four people to play at the same time, both locally and over the network. Our results can be compared with others thanks to the network scoreboards.
Other
In addition, the developers included a lot of bonuses in the game like the ability to play the Japanese version of the game, enable graphics filters, modify the difficulty and the number of available credits, as well as the original leaflet promoting the arcade machine.
