The Settlers II: 10th Anniversary - The Vikings is the first official expansion for the anniversary edition of The Settlers II. As its title suggests, the expansion developed by Blue Byte Software and Funatics Development allows the player to play as the Vikings. Our new heroes were attacked by the cunning Pirates of the Wolf who damaged the World Portal.
The Settlers II: 10th Anniversary - The Vikings is the first official expansion to The Settlers II: 10th Anniversary. The game was created in cooperation of two experienced studios: Blue Byte Software (creators of The Settlers franchise) and Funatics Development (Cultures series), developers specializing in easy-going, cartoonish sim games.
The main theme of this expansion are titular brave Vikings. For centuries they have lived in peace and welfare, doing what they like the most – sailing the seas, plundering, and expanding in numbers. Recently, however, disturbing news began to come from the East. Quickly it becomes evident that someone dared to disrupt the peace and layed hand on the people of the region. The mysterious enemy turns to be cunning Pirates of the Wolf, who apparently needed some more living-space, which they decided to take at the cost of the dwellers of the North. What is worse, the invaders damaged an extremely valuable World Portal, leading to its explosion and teleportation of the Vikings into a new, unknown land. There, they encountered the pirates, the very perpetrators of the confusion. The mixed and uncertain people unites under the command of brave Eirigg, who tries to return to the beloved homeland and avert the danger from the daring attackers.
The rest of the story is in the player’s hands. In the new campaign you get to control a new nation, characterized by unique architecture and great passion for travelling, especially by sea. There are 12 expansive, interconnected scenarios. Completing these will help the lost sea lovers return to their safe settlements. Missions are introduced by amusing, carefully designed cut-scenes. One novelty is an innovative quests system, which lets you accept and do various missions and receive tangible benefits. Another one is the random map generator, which fits the game’s concept very well and enhances its replayability.
