The Realm Online Description
The Realm Online is the oldest representative of the genre, known today as the MMORPG, allowing you to explore the fantastic world, full of monsters and magic. A big advantage of the program is the possibility of simultaneous participation in the game of hundreds, or maybe even thousands of players. They can travel together, perform tasks, attack monsters or join various guilds.
One of the strongest aspects of the game is the process of creating our hero. Each player can choose from three races: people, elves and giants. Of course, they differ from each other in a quite important way, e.g. giants are the best in combat, but with magic in their worse case. If you want to cast spells, it's better to choose the elves and maximize their intelligence. A large number of professions, in which a representative of a given breed can take on the role, creates interesting mixtures. We can try to create a human sorcerer, who at the same time will perform decently in hand-to-hand combat. However, it is better to devote the points available at the beginning to the development of basic features and train our hero in a given field to the maximum.
The combat system is based on the division into rounds. It has its advantages and disadvantages, of course. On the one hand, people with a worse connection can play (in 1996 it was the norm), on the other hand, the program loses some realism, because it is known that if the action takes place in real time, such an integral component as the fight, it should also remain in it. This was also the main reason why The Realm Online did not gain stunning popularity, just like other products of that time: Ultima Online or Meridian 59.
