The Playroom on PS4 is a casual party game for PlayStation Camera. It is also a kind of performance showcasing some features of DualShock 4 controller. The game was produced by the SCE Japan Studio team, known for example for developing games such as Patapon and Puppeteer as well asThe Playroom VR.
Mechanics
The game described herein offers access to three forms of entertainment - Play with Asobi, AR Bots, and Air Hockey. In the first case, players are dealing with an animal robot, which is a kind of development of the idea initiated in EyePet. During the game, players interact with a funny android they play with and take care of. Interestingly enough, thanks to the face recognition function, it distinguishes specific people from each other. In the case of AR Bots, we bring to life small people who can be moved from the screen of the controller to the TV, tried to push them, and so on. The latter is a holographic hockey using motion control.
Over time, new mini-games have been added to The Playroom.
Technical issues
The Playroom on the PS4 uses augmented reality technology. This means that the camera registers our silhouettes and surroundings and displays them on the TV screen. Next, the program overlays the digitally generated characters, charts, etc., on top of that.
