The Pathless

The Pathless is an action adventure game, in which we take the role of the hunter traversing the fantastic land in the company of his animal companion - an eagle. Game was developed by Giant Squid studio (developers also have successful Abzu on their account). The publisher is Annapurna Interactive.

Plot

In The Pathless we play as the Huntress - a woman with masterful bow skills, who goes to the mythical island to face the curse lying on its gods. It turns out that a sinister creature called the Godslayer is behind it all. To stand a chance against him, the supreme deity, Eagle Mother, gives her an animal companion - an eagle.

Mechanics

In The Pathless we observe the action from the third person perspective (TPP). Gameplay base is exploration of the world full of ancient ruins and secrets to discover. From time to time we also have to fight with the fallen deities, warped by the Godslayer's curse - in order to do so, we have to clean the temples and towers dedicated to them beforehand. Liberating a deity from the influence of Godslayer opens the way to new secrets on the map and allows you to move to the next land.

An important role is played by interesting movement mechanics, which allows to seamlessly combine acrobatic stunts with impressive archery. Acrobatics of the heroine are limited by a special energy gauge, which we fill up with accurate shots. The whole thing has been designed in such a way as to encourage the player to stay in constant motion, which makes even covering long distances run extremely smoothly, and fights with bosses are extremely dynamic. It is worth noting that there is no map in The Pathless. However, the protagonist can use a special mask, which makes it easier to spot important places and landmarks. There are also various finds and secrets hidden here and there, which allow us to develop the capabilities of the Huntress and her eagle - increase the energy bar or extend the time of gliding in the air.

Another interesting element of the game by Giant Squid is an animal companion. In The Pathless, an eagle flies by the side of the Huntress, with the help of which our heroine can glide, while shooting enemies with a bow. The eagle also provides assistance when solving environmental puzzles. However, in order to ensure smooth cooperation between the protagonist and the animal, you need to maintain the bond with the majestic bird all the time (we do this by stroking it, among other things).

Game modes

In The Pathless we can play only solo. The core of gameplay is story campaign.

Technical aspects

The Pathless has an attractive, 3D graphic setting. The quality of graphics does not result from the technological advancement of the game, but from the artistic direction taken by the developers. The game was made with the use of the same technology as Abzu, therefore it has a similar, intriguing atmosphere and a bit cartoonish setting. Beautiful, melancholic music accompanies the game.
