The Mooseman
A narrative adventure game inspired by the legends of the Czudow tribe, formerly inhabiting the north-western regions of modern Russia. In The Mooseman players take on the role of the title shaman discovering the secrets of the world hidden from the eyes of mortals.
The Mooseman is a narrative adventure game developed by independent Russian studio Morteshka, founded by Vladimir Beletsky and Mikhail Shvachko.
Story
The story told in The Mooseman is inspired by the legends of the Chud tribe, which used to inhabit, among others, the north-western regions of modern Russia. According to them, the world consists of three dimensions - the lowest, inhabited by spirits; the middle, in which people live; and the highest, which is the domain of ancient deities. During the game the player takes on the role of the title Mooseman, a shaman able to travel between all layers of reality.
Mechanics
In The Mooseman we observe the action from the side. In the course of our adventure we travel through locations inspired by nature from the vicinity of Perm (where the studio is located) and enriched with fantastic elements. When traversing them, the protagonist meets ancient deities and spirits, learns the secrets hidden from mortals, and solves numerous puzzles. Over time, the hero gains artifacts and new abilities to give him access to the highest dimensions.
Technical aspects
Characteristic feature of The Mooseman are hand-drawn graphics maintained in gloomy, almost monochromatic palette. The unique atmosphere is also built by folk music, which accompanies us on our journey.
