A simple real-time strategy by Polish studio Squatting Penguins. Plot of The Mims Beginning tells the story of the titular Mims, who traverse the galaxy in search of a new home. However, their ship gets damaged by an asteroid, so they are forced to seek refuge at nearby celestial bodies, each of which is distinguished by a different climate and terrain.

The Mims Beginning for PC is a simple real-time strategy, reminiscent of such titles as Black & White (where player does not have full control over the units). It was developed by a Polish studio Squatting Penguins, founded by just two people who are responsible for virtually all aspects of the game (except the music).

Plot

The Mims Beginning for PC tells the story of titular Mims – creatures that traverse the galaxy in search of a new home. As a result of a collision with an asteroid their ship breaks down, so they have to use escape pods to evacuate on nearby celestial bodies. Each of them has a different climate and terrain. In these difficult conditions Mims decide to establish and expand a colony. Our task is to help them.

Mechanics

In The Mims Beginning for PC we take on the role of the leader of the Mims' colony and we have to take care of its proper development, giving our subordinates only simple commands. It is not easy, because our pupils face many problems. The most urgent are epidemic shortages of energy, generated from fruits of various plants. Besides, we have to deal with local formidable fauna, eg. giant dragons, as well as with other threats. A characteristic feature of the game is that like in the Black & White series we are not provided with full control over our subordinates. Instead, the player affects fortunes of the likable creatures in a number of ways – by giving simple commands, planting plants and planning the development of the colony. The last one involves such activities as researching new technologies, teaching our creatures new skills, or even taking care of a possessed flock.

Technical aspects

Game by Squatting Penguins studio features appealing, colorful visuals, reminiscent of such titles as Spore, or Pikmin (it was build on Unity 3D engine).
