The Mighty Eighth VR

The Mighty Eighth is a co-operative bomber crew simulator during World War II, in which the success of the missions requires cooperation with other players. MicroProse studio is responsible for the game, specializing in a variety of realistic simulators related to the activities of the military during the World War II, such as Sea Power and Second Front.

Plot

The action in The Mighty Eighth is set during World War II. We take on the role of one of the 10 members of the crew of the B-17 or B-24 Liberator bomber belonging to the sky's titled Eighth Air Force, created on 22 February 1942. We have a number of missions ahead of us, including the drop of bombs in the designated area, in order to tip the scales of victory to our side.

Mechanics

The Mighty Eighth is a realistic flight crew simulator that is primarily aimed at cooperation. The B-17 and B-24 bombers are big and deadly fortresses, but we won't win anything here alone. The skies has turned into a battlefield and the enemies know the potential of our machine, so we will often become a target for their attack. Depending on the assigned role, we have the possibility to control the machine as the aircraft captain or second pilot, where good knowledge of the cockpit is required and a lot of resistance to stress, when in a dangerous situation you should not abandon your position in the formation. Another option is to take care of damaged aircraft components due to enemy fire. Here we need to be fast and efficient, while knowing the location of specific components and ways to repair them.

The action in The Mighty Eighth is dynamic and at the same time demanding because of the first person perspective and the time of the action, and because it is based on realism and team play skills.

Technical aspects

The Mighty Eighth is a three-dimensional game created primarily for virtual reality to provide more immersion, but nothing stands in the way of players without such equipment to take part in the game.
