The Mage’s Tale is a VR dungeon crawler developed by InXile Entertainment, creators of games like Wasteland 2 or Torment: Tides of Numenera. The game takes us to a fantasy world that was created for The Bard’s Tale game series. Events of The Mage’s Tale take place between the third and fourth installment of that series. We play as a young adept of magic, whose task is to find his kidnapped mentor and expose the antagonistic wizard's conspiracy.

Plot

The Mage’s Tale for PC takes us to a fantasy world that was created for the The Bard’s Tale game series. Events of the game take place between the third and fourth installment of that series. Our hero is an adept of magic. The story begins when his master, Alguin, is kidnapped by the evil wizard Gaufroi. Our job is to find our teacher and expose Gaufroi’s conspiracy.

Mechanics

Action in The Mage’s Tale for PC is presented from a first-person perspective (FPP). Gameplay focuses on exploration. As we play, we will venture through the sewers bellow the town of Skara Brae, ancient crypts, and dungeons. Very often we will have to solve a riddle in order to gain access to new areas.

Dungeons are filled with all kinds of dangers like traps and various enemies. Not only other wizards, but also all kinds of monsters (goblins, undead, mighty giants, etc.) will try to stop us from achieving our goal. Thankfully, our hero is not defenceless. He can use all sorts of combat spells based on elements (we can electrocute our enemies, throw ice shards at them, or set them aflame). We learn new spells as we progress in the game and can create new ones thanks to the game’s complex crafting system.

Technical Aspects

The Mage’s Tale for PC uses Unreal Engine 4. Developers made a good use of the technology created by Epic Games. The game in topic has beautiful and detailed visuals. The Mage’s Tale requires VR goggles to be playable.
