The Lion's Song is an unusual episodic adventure by Mi'pu'mi Games. The project builds on ideas from a free game of the same title that was developed in 2014 for the Ludum Dare competition.

Plot

The Lion's Song is set in Austria at the beginning of the 20th century and tells the story of three creative people experiencing turning points in their careers. The first of them is a young composer who is preparing to create her magnum opus. The second is a middle-aged inventor and the third is a brilliant mathematician trying to develop a revolutionary equation.

The Lion's Song consists of three episodes. Each of them concentrates on one of the characters mentioned above, showing how the last moments of her creative process have been going on. The scenario was realized in such a way that many elements of the story were not given directly. As a result, we have to connect the events ourselves by using clues obtained in the conversations.

Mechanics

The Lion's Song, released on Switch, PC, etc., is a narrative adventure game. The gameplay boils down mainly to following the plot, conducting conversations and making important decisions shaping the plot - not only within a given episode but also in the others.

Telephones play a key role in the game. We use them for conversations. Thanks to these conversations - as well as by interacting with the environment - we get inspirations that, step by step, bring the characters closer to the breakthrough in their work.

Technical aspects

The Lion's Song was created in a retro style using large pixels and simplified animations. At the same time, the whole game was designed to look like yellowed old photos, which helps create a convincing atmosphere of the beginning of the 20th century.
