Visual Impact's Island of Dr. Frankenstein is a colorful adventure based on the story of the crazy doctor and his strange experiments. Production is distributed on Nintendo Wii as a low-budget title.
Players play the role of Dr. Frankenstein's nephew, Franki, who plays the role of an engineer and a "golden hand" on a magical island levitating high in the sky. The place is inhabited by various creatures known from the stories, such as Mummy or Werewolf and a group of several people who coexist peacefully with each other. The aim of the players is to solve a mystery surrounding the island and at the same time make life easier for its inhabitants.
Game mechanics is based on dialogues and mini-games. Console users receive orders from characters they meet, which they then have to execute. This usually involves completing a simple mini-game to fix a fault or find an object. Occasionally, players will also have to deal with "Vaporites", small creatures that look like clouds and try to destroy the mechanisms that work on the island. The fight against them is limited to the use of a special vacuum cleaner that swallows enemies. The creators presented the whole action in an isometric projection with a camera suspended high in the skies. Only during dialogues will the image get closer, showing the talking characters.
The world of The Island of Dr. Frankenstein uses simple and slightly twisted 3D. All characters have a slightly childish appearance, and the whole production is very colorful and pleasing to the eye. The whole is aimed at younger Wii users.
