The History Channel: Battle for the Pacific is a dynamic action game signed with the logo of the popular TV channel, in which we observe events from the first-person perspective. The action of the game takes place during World War II. Cauldron, a team known from such titles as The History Channel: Civil War, or Knights of the Temple II is responsible for preparing Battle for the Pacific.
In the single-player campaign we play as an American soldier fighting in the Pacific. The title greatly emphasizes the educational aspect of the game. This applies to every element of the game, including historical intro videos, shown before each mission. They serve, among other things, to teach detailed information about the conflict, or at least the significance of the fights for the further fate of the war. In addition, the assigned tasks are based on historical events. Among other things, we take part in the American landing on Guadalcanal. Our task in this operation is to take control of Henderson airfield. One of the missions associated with Iwo Jima is to reach the top of the Suribachi volcano in order to be able to put the American flag there. In the whole game, there is no shortage of battles played on the beaches, inside not very well lit caves, or in dense and filled with treacherous traps jungle.
We never start fighting alone, because in subsequent clashes we are accompanied by allied soldiers. We cannot exercise any control over them, but care has been taken to ensure that they respond appropriately to events that are taking place. Soldiers can hide behind obstacles or coordinate their attacks. The devs did not forget to add realistically recreated weaponry. We use authentic models of machine guns and sniper rifles, pistols, or grenades. Occasionally we also use anti-aircraft guns.
Battle for the Pacific offers a multiplayer mode in which we can play as an American or Japanese soldier. We can choose between such modes as Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch, Elimination, Team Elimination, or Capture the Flag. The fights are fought on interestingly designed maps, prepared based on historical data from the period.
