The Hex is an unusual game that combines elements of various genres - from adventure games, through RPG, to platform games. The game was developed by Daniel Mullins Games studio, whose portfolio also includes Pony Island.

Plot

The Hex starts in The Six Pint Inn tavern, where six video game heroes trying to forget about their turbulent past. Things gain momentum when a bartender answers a mysterious phone call and is informed that one of his guests is planning to commit a murder. The player can discover the identity of the potential aggressor by reading the memories of each of the protagonists.

Mechanics

In The Hex each protagonist received his own chapter of the story, in which the gameplay is very different from the others. The Spacemarine, taken out of the shoot'em ups, travels through stages full of enemies, The Sorceress wanders through a fantasy world inhabited by creatures representing different races, The Platformer explores locations with multiple traps jumping across platforms, while The Fighter confronts adversaries using his own fists. The list closes with The Apocalypse Warrior inspired by the heroes of postapocalyptic stories. The last chapter features The First Person Perspective, and players control a character who instead of a face has a purple question mark.

Technical aspects

The Hex features simple 2D visuals that look as if they were drawn in Paint. During their adventures, players are accompanied by an atmospheric soundtrack.
