The DioField Chronicle is a jRPG with RTS elements. It was developed by Lancarse studio, known for its Lost Dimension and Monark games, and was published by Square Enix.
Plot
The DioField Chronicle takes us on a journey to a universe combining elements of fantasy, medieval and modern times. On the continent of Rowetale a war erupted between the powerful Empire and the Alliance formed against it. When a stalemate broke out and neither side of the conflict was able to make any progress, the eyes of both factions turned to the island of DioField. This piece of land, belonging to the so far neutral kingdom of Alletain, is rich in Jadeite deposits - a source of magic. We play as Andrias Rhondarson - one of the legendary mercenaries called the Blue Foxes, who unexpectedly found themselves in the middle of the war. Our actions will not only influence the fate of the conflict, but also shape the future of DioField and the entire continent of Rowetale.
Game mechanics
The driving force behind The DioField Chronicle are missions, in which we observe the action from a top-down view. Our troop travels through various locations, trying to complete assigned tasks. Enemies with whom we fight in real-time battles disturb us in completing the mission goals. During skirmishes we have to show, above all, a tactical sense, skillfully using both the abilities of individual characters and topography of the terrain. In addition, the game allows us to organize ambushes on enemies; a surprise attack provides our team members with damage bonuses.
In breaks from the tasks we find ourselves in the headquarters, which we can freely explore, watching the events from third person perspective (TPP). It is here that war meetings take place, during which we look over the map and decide on the next actions of the protagonist and his companions, choosing the targets of subsequent operations. In addition, visits to this place are an opportunity to get to know the Blue Foxes and other characters better, get more powerful weapons or improve the ones you already have, or finally strengthen our subordinates, who over time learn new skills.
Technical aspects
The audiovisual setting is a strong point of The DioField Chronicle. The locations are presented in the form of meticulously designed dioramas, and the characters are reminiscent of moving figurines. We can listen to music composed by Ramin Djawadi and Brandon Campbell, who previously worked on the Game of Thrones series, among others.
