The Complex

The Complex is a science fiction thriller adventure game created using FMV technology. The game was developed by three companies: Wales Interactive, Good Gate Media and Little Jade Productions. Noteworthy is the fact that the first of them took part in the creation of genre-related games, i.e. The Bunker and Late Shift.

Plot

The main character of The Complex is Dr. Amy Tenant, a well-known specialist in nanocellular technologies. When London is attacked with a biological weapon, the protagonist and her friend are trapped in the laboratory complex. How their future will turn out (including whether Amy will be able to unravel the secret hidden here) depends on our actions. The choices we make (often morally ambiguous) lead to one of eight endings.

Mechanics

The Complex is an interactive movie, so the gameplay is about watching the next film sequences and making decisions that will influence the further course of the story. In this way we not only gradually build more or less friendly relations between Amy and other characters appearing on the screen, but also her own personality. Our actions constantly influence such characteristics of the protagonist as openness, conscientiousness, directness, kindness and emotionality.

After each completion of the game we can check the "Personality Score" we gained, as well as watch the analysis of our actions. As the story has many ramifications, the title is highly replayable, and the skip function for specific scenes also encourages you to take up subsequent approaches.

Technical aspects

The Complex has no graphic design and interface elements are applied to scenes with real actors. The story told in the game is the work of Lynn Renee Maxcy, one of the scriptwriters of the TV series The Handmaid’s Tale. Paul Raschid sat on the director's chair, while Michelle Mylett, Kate Dickie and Al Weaver are among the actors and actresses appearing on screen.
