In The Coma, we assume the role of a high school student by the name of Youngho who falls asleep during his final exam and having woken up, he discovers that it’s nighttime and everyone has long since left the classroom. It turns out that some sinister force has overrun the school and won’t stop until the student is dead.

The Coma is an adventure action survival horror game for PC. It is the debut production of Korean studio called Devespresso Games.

Plot

As befits a horror game, The Coma starts-off with an event that terrifies all Korean teenagers, namely the CSAT exam that is considered to be the most difficult high school final exam in the world. We assume the world of a student named Youngho who takes the test after a sleepless night spent on revising the material and falls asleep before finishing. Having awoken, we discovers that everyone has long since left the classroom and its night already. He decides to go home but it won’t be an easy task since the entire building has been overrun by sinister forces that won’t rest until the student is dead.

Mechanics

In the campaign, we explore the school which is full of traps and monsters, most of the latter being the protagonist’s transformed teachers and fellow students. Our main task is naturally to find a way out of the building. Unfortunately, Youngho spent the last several years on studying intensively so he’s not really the muscle type. Therefore, the most effective way to stay alive is to avoid confrontation with the enemy, hide and in case of detection — flee.

Youngho has only five health points so he can’t take much damage. What’s more, we rarely find healing items. While exploring, we eventually start to encounter other students. Some of them will prove helpful, while other will pose a grave danger. The game doesn’t lack for puzzles. We can gain some clues that can help in solving them by talking to people and collecting letters and notes scattered around the building.
