The Bluecoats: North vs South Description
The Bluecoats: North vs South, released on PC, iOS, Switch and AND, is an attempt by French company Anuman Interactive to resurrect a hit straight from Amiga computers (500/600/1200).
Plot
As in the original, the game takes place in the American Civil War. The player has the opportunity to play the role of the commander of one side of the conflict - the North wearing blue uniforms or the South dressed in the grey - and try to help their side.
Mechanics
The game offers four campaigns differing in the initial distribution of forces on the map. Before starting the game, you can not only select a side but also set additional variables, such as Indian and Texan attacks and thunderstorms, which can stop the movement of units. The game takes place in turns and each player can move their troops by only one field - to the neighboring state. Entering territory occupied by enemy units opens a battle screen. The game has a real-time combat system.
The economic aspect plays an important role in the game. Control of states allows you to generate the resources needed to purchase new troops - infantry, cavalry or artillery - or additional assistance, such as more cannonballs, resistance to bad weather or invulnerability to Indian and Texan attacks. However, the money earned must be first safely transported by rail.
The game also features mini-games - an attack on the fort and attack on the train. The first one is an arcade on-rails shooter, in which our task is to eliminate enemy soldiers leaning out from behind various covers. In the second, the player can try to steal the gold transported by the opponent, which requires shooting train's defenders and avoid terrain obstacles.
Technical aspects
The Bluecoats: North vs South uses cartoon visuals reminiscent of the Lucky Luke animated series. The game also features humorous animations and a pleasant soundtrack.
