A simulation of an artificial life, allowing to set various parameters to create an environment for small creatures. The Bibites: Digital Life allows us to lead the titular digital beings during their evolutionary journey. We can also check their strength in the challenge mode, allowing to fight bosses.
The Bibites: Digital Life is an independent simulation project by Leo Caussan, whose aim is to prove that life does not have to be based on carbon. In the debut game of Omnia Studios, we take care of digital life forms called Bibites, leading them in a continuous process of evolution.
Gameplay
In The Bibites: Digital Life we create our own digital worlds using various physical and biological parameters, and then fill them with small creatures. Bibites start as idle organisms with basic genes. Through mutations, they acquire behaviors that enable them to feed and reproduce. This, along with natural selection, leads to evolution. Eventually bibites can follow pheromone trails to hunt other creatures or gather food supplies in a specific area of the map. They perform various environmental roles, including predation and parasitism. Thanks to neural networks, they can learn to communicate and cooperate.
Every bibit has a unique brain and genetic information that evolves from generation to generation. Their appearance is based on genes and represents the way they adapted to the environment. We are able to selectively kill bibites, feed them or force them to lay eggs. In doing so, we observe their adaptation to the evolving ecosystems and conduct experiments, checking how the bibites will develop if there is no friction, or when movement will be extremely energy-consuming.
The Bibites: Digital Life offers us access to many statistics related to the biological simulation. This includes things like health, energy transfer and behavior, growth, metabolism and digestion. We track the path of our bibites using genealogical trees and analyze population data.
Finally, we can the strength of our bibites, sending them to challenge levels, where they compete with each other and fight bosses. Thanks to this, we gain achievements and a chance to dominate community rankings.
Engine and graphics
The Bibites: Digital Life is powered by the Unity engine. The game is characterized by a minimalist graphic design in pixel art style.
