An adventure game, enriched with elements taken from sneaking and strategy, in which we follow the fate of three characters trying to escape from the totalitarian part of the city divided by a stone wall. During the game in The Berlin Wall we not only organize and prepare an escape plan, but also acquire the means and tools necessary for its implementation, and when we feel ready to do so - we try to cross the border illegally by ourselves.
The Berlin Wall is an adventure game enriched with elements taken from stealth and strategy game. The game was developed by the yndependent studio K202 and published by PlayWay.
Story
The Berlin Wall takes us to a city strongly inspired by the Cold War-era East Berlin. The story focuses on three heroes who desperately try to get to the other side of the wall dividing the metropolis into two parts - the eastern (communist, whose inhabitants were forced to surrender to a totalitarian regime) and the western (where, due to the prevailing democracy and capitalism, the protagonists intend to start a new life). As the leader of an underground organization, our task is to do our best to enable them to do so.
It is worth noting that the course of the story depends to a large extent on our actions, and it was based on real events. In addition, many of the places we visit have their counterparts in reality, such as Checkpoint Charlie (the official border crossing between Eastern and Western Berlin), the Brandenburg Gate and Alexanderplatz with the famous Television Tower.
Mechanics
In The Berlin Wall the action is shown from the side. The game is based on two pillars, the first of which is to get to know the situation, hire people to help and assign tasks to them, and to prepare an overall strategy. Only after we have planned everything can we move on to action.
The second pillar is the implementation of the plan, which requires the acquisition of the necessary tools (which we can steal or pay for them by various favors for their owners), conducting conversations with NPCs (and obtaining valuable information) or finally securing help from the inhabitants of the city. The escape itself may require climbing the wall or digging an underground tunnel. Regardless of which solution we choose, we must be constantly on guard and avoid enemies and obstacles in the form of searchlights, alarms or even mines; otherwise, our hero may die an untimely death.
Technical aspects
The Berlin Wall's three-dimensional graphics are adopt a gloomy colors palette that create a depressing, oppressive atmosphere; the same is true of the soundtrack.
