A simulator set in a science fiction world. The game tries to transfer the world of a popular TV series called Babylon 5 into a game called Freespace 2. Similarly to the original, The Babylon Project is an arcade space simulator.
The Babylon Project, available on PC tries to transfer a world of a popular TV series called Babylon 5 into a game called Freespace 2. Initially (back in 1999), the game was a modification for Freespace 2 but now – after the publication of its source code – it is a full game, although still free, addressed to the fans of the series.
Mechanics
Similarly to the original, The Babylon Project is an arcade space simulator. However, the difference here is that names of all ships, proper names and plots of all scenarios refer to the aforementioned TV series. The developers recreated models of ships as well as all nuances of Babylon 5's world. For example, they used the original voices, music and fragments of videos.
Game modes
Besides the singleplayer mode, The Babylon Project also offers a multiplayer mode where players can control fighters known from the TV series and face each other.
Technical aspects
The game runs on a modified engine of Freespace 2 and it doesn't require the original game to work. With the game we get various campaigns that must be installed separately from the core game. The first scenario pack offers five missions that focus on fights between the Earth and Minbari.
