The 7th Guest: 25th Anniversary Edition is another remaster of a well-known adventure game created by the American studio Trilobyte and published back in 1993. Interestingly enough, this title was one of the first to be released on CDs. The refreshed version features better visuals and music, as well as numerous fixes in terms of controls. The remastered edition was created by MojoTouch.
Plot
The 7th Guest: 25th Anniversary Edition has not been changed from the original. The story focuses on Henry Stauf, a homeless thief and bandit who, after a mysterious vision sent to him in his dream, decides to design a collection of beautiful dolls, which brought him great wealth and allowed him to change his life. Unfortunately, it soon turned out that everything had its price - children who received one of the dolls started to suffer from an unknown disease, which nobody could cure. After this event Stauf abandoned further toy production, hid in his estate and for a very long time gave no sign of life. The player assumes the role a man suffering from amnesia, who goes to Stauf's estate and tries to solve a riddle involving him.
Mechanics
In The 7th Guest: 25th Anniversary Edition the player observes the action from the first person perspective. The gameplay resembles what players might know, for example, from the Myst series. The game focuses on exploring successive rooms (a total of several dozen different locations) and clicking on appropriate spots on the screen, as well as solving logical puzzles with different levels of difficulty (in the game, players will also find a library full of various tips). One's main task is to get to know the gloomy history prepared by the creators.
The refreshed version offers a new user interface that has been designed practically from scratch and allows, among other things, for highlighting important objects on the screen. Players also get a new map, which makes it easier to move around the property, the ability to skip any scene (so players don't have to watch them again, for example, when they play for the second or third time), a new menu for saving and loading the game, and finally a number of keyboard shortcuts.
Additionally, in The 7th Guest: 25th Anniversary Edition players will find several scenes that were deleted from the original version of the game.
Game modes
In The 7th Guest: 25th Anniversary Edition one can only play alone. The game offers only a story campaign.
Technical aspects
The 7th Guest: 25th Anniversary Edition has distinctive visuals consisting mainly of illustrations and films that convey the entire story. The game comes in 2D, although it often tries to create an impression of 3D. The title supports higher resolutions than the original version (the illustrations are scaled accordingly) and offers a better quality soundtrack (enriched with additional elements). It is worth noting that players also have the opportunity to play in the original setting.
Upon buying the game players also receive the original version of the game, the "Making of" material, a novel and the screenplay The 7th Guest, additional materials (The Stauf Files), and a soundtrack.
