The first commercial version of the legendary arcade and logic game, published in the West in 1987. The Spectrum Holobyte Group is responsible for the implementation of the programme, which has equipped the classic prototype mainly with a nice visual setting and a better interface.
The aim of the game is to create lines from six blocks of varying shape, falling from the top of the screen to the bottom of a deep well. Subsequent elements are randomly selected and move at a constant speed. The player's task is to adjust them in real time (blocks can be rotated 90 degrees) to fill the structure and not to create holes. Each line is rewarded with a certain number of points. If you manage to remove more than one line (up to a maximum of four) from the well at the same time, the bonus will be higher accordingly. From time to time the difficulty of the game increases, which is indicated by a change of background. In each subsequent stage, the blocks fall faster, which makes it difficult to fit them.
The Holobyte spectrum has equipped its Tetris version with variable backgrounds, which are different images (EGA or CGA graphics). Compared to the original version of the game, the control has also been improved, so you don't have to use a cumbersome numeric keypad. A list of best results has also been introduced, so that records are not lost when you leave the program.
