TerraStorm is a city builder strategy game with survival elements that may bring to mind the Frostpunk series. The game is the second project of the independent Polish studio GameLoad, which has Your Story in its portfolio.
Plot
In the TerraStorm universe, history took an alternative path. World War II ended with the Nazis using a powerful resource known as Viribus, which brought civilization to the brink of extinction. The few who managed to survive the global cataclysm began to gradually rebuild the destroyed society, making Viribus an incredibly efficient source of energy over the course of more than 70 years.
During the game we take on the role of one of the so-called Architects, managers of gigantic, self-sufficient towers. They are a kind of vertical cities built by the Rose Corp organization to provide shelter for the growing number of refugees. How life will look like in the towers is up to us - it will be determined by our actions and choices.
Gameplay
In TerraStorm we watch the action from a bird's eye view. We start the game by choosing an Architect, into whom we will transform. Individual characters have been differentiated in terms of skills, strengths and weaknesses, as well as passive bonuses. Once the choice is done we can start creating a post-apocalyptic society.
All issues related to the operation of the towers we manage rest on our shoulders. Our main focus should be on constant development, achieved through conducting research on new technologies and building structures on subsequent floors. We can assign specializations to individual floors, which allows us to erect specific types of buildings within them - from energy-producing ones, through industrial ones, to research centers and houses.
In addition, it is worth taking care of good relations with other towers, as well as organizing expeditions to the wasteland in search of settlements and valuable artifacts as well as places to build new towers. Establishing positive relationships with other communities (whether they live in towers managed by other Architects or inhabit wasteland) pays off, as it provides us with the opportunity to exchange resources and other goods.
An important role is also played by the need to take care of the basic needs of citizens and, over time, to satisfy their desires... or quite the opposite. Given that the resources we have are limited, we often have to make morally ambiguous choices. The issue is further complicated by the presence of various environmental anomalies, which can pose a deadly threat to our residents.
