Tartarus Description
Tartarus for PC is a first-person perspective science fiction adventure game developed by Abyss Gameworks. It is the debut project of the studio.
Plot
The game takes place in year 2230. When the research and mining ship Tartarus (MRS TARTARUS 220478) is close to Neptun, a security protocol activates for unknown reasons. The life of the whole crew becomes threatened and all hope lies in Cooper, a miner who must get to the bridge and reset the system before the ship crashes. What’s causes problems is the fact that the protagonist lacks any experience in using ship technology. A mechanic named Andrews helps him by talking through the communication system.
Mechanics
The gameplay in Tartarus for PC is presented from a first-person perspective. The gameplay is based mostly on computer hacking. The hacking mechanics aren’t simplified to easy minigames focused on moving sticks or connecting lines. Instead, the player must enter specific, frequently realistic commands. What makes the task harder is the fact that Cooper has no computer knowledge. Because of that, he must help himself with Andrews’s advice and with items found during the exploration – they can hide valuable instructions or passwords.
Technical aspects
Tartarus for PC is powered by Unreal Engine 3. The technology is known from games like Astroneer, Final Fantasy VII Remake and Kholat and it enables the game to generate greatly looking graphics. The title focuses on disturbing atmosphere. Because of that, the rooms are quite dark and the lights are very important.
