A three-dimensional action platformer in which we play the role of a charming monkey facing an army of sinister insects. In Tamarin, we travel through a variety of locations, jumping on platforms, bypassing traps and eliminating enemies with a fancy arsenal.
Tamarin is a three-dimensional action platformer, enriched with elements taken from the metroidvania genre. The production was developed by the independent Chameleon Games studio, founded by former Rare team members who worked on such titles as Banjo-Kazooie, Battletoads, Donkey Kong 64, and GoldenEye 007.
Plot
Tamarin takes players on a journey to a land inspired by Scandinavia. During the game, players assume the role of a charming monkey, who in order to defend its loved ones has to stop the invasion of insects spreading death and destruction wherever they appear.
Mechanics
Tamarin shows the action from the third person perspective (TPP). Players get at their disposal a vast world divided into a number of interconnected locations. Among the places waiting to be visited, one will find picturesque coastlines, fjords, dense forests, as well as underground tunnels and complexes. Players have to prove their skills when travelling through these locations, because there is no shortage of jumping between platforms and avoiding various traps. In addition, one has to face enemies waiting for the monkey, such as electric skylights and dancing ants. Players eliminate them with a fancy arsenal of firearms. But not all chreatures are hostile; in the course of the adventure, players meet other animals who, in exchange for help they receive, bestow various rewards upon the protagonist.
Technical aspects
Tamarin has colorful and detailed visuals maintained in an eye-pleasing style. Attention is drawn to both the detailed models of animals and the varied surroundings covered with dense vegetation.
