Tales of VS is one of the side versions of the well-known series of Japanese RPG games. Unlike most other parts of the cycle, the title focuses only on combat. Namco Bandai is responsible for the creation of this work.

Tales of VS takes us to the world known as Dailantia, where the key source of precious energy is mana produced by World Tree. A tree is only able to bear fruit once every three years. During this event, called Great Harvest, a fierce battle for a valuable product begins. In order to solve the dispute in a more civilized way, a special tournament - Yggdrasill Battle - is created, which can be joined by warriors of interested parties and completely independent persons.

A total of 35 personalities from 13 different games of the series enter the big tournament. Both positive heroes and negative characters are present. The game features such people as the mysterious Shing Meteoryte (Tales of Hearts), the unshakeable Yuri Lowell (Tales of Vesperia), the extremely wise Richter Abend (Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World) and Prince Luke fon Fabre (Tales of the Abyss).

The production uses LMBS (Linear Motion Battle System), a combat system known from previous versions of the series. A maximum of four warriors take part in the skirmishes. Individual heroes can carry out many normal attacks, but also use new combinations, such as bounce back from the wall. In addition, the characters collect experience points for winning duels - in exchange for them you can improve the statistics. In addition, it is worth mentioning the option of modifying weapons.

There are several gameplay modes and smaller mini-games, such as 2D Battle Mode, where three-dimensional models have been replaced by two-dimensional images. The basic form of fun is Yggdrasill Mode. Here we get to know the history of each of the available characters. However, the stories about the fate of individual warriors differ slightly from the original adventures known from earlier games.

Tales of VS is also a specific, manga style and interestingly designed audiovisual setting. The game also features a multiplayer mode where up to four players can compete over a wireless network.
