Sword Art Online: Fatal Bullet is a science-fiction action RPG available on PC, PS4 and XONE. The game has been developed by Dimps – a studio known for working on i.a. Dragon Ball: Xenoverse series.

Plot

As one might guess from the title, the game is based on the Japanese Sword Art Online franchise, which comprises youth novels, manga series, anime series, and a full-length animated movie. The game takes players to a near future and allows one to assume the role of a player, who spends time playing a Virtual Reality MMORPG called Gun Gale Online – the action is set in a science-fiction world, while the gameplay focuses on using multiple firearms.

Sword Art Online: Fatal Bullet offers a new story written by the author of the original novels – Reki Kawahara. In the story campaign, one can encounter many characters from the franchise and set off to explore many locations one might be familiar with after reading the Sword Art Online books.

Mechanics

The PC, PS4 and XONE release of Sword Art Online: Fatal Bullet is an action RPG, in which players have to prove their aim, as it plays a role as important as the statistics of one's character. Apart from diverse pistols and carbines, there are also several types of cold steel weapons.

During the game, players observe the action from the third-person perspective, explore a partially open world, gather numerous items, interact with NPCs, and complete various quests. For each success, one is rewarded with experience points, which he can spend to develop his character.

Game modes

The PC, PS4 and XONE release of Sword Art Online: Fatal Bullet offers both single player campaign and a multiplayer mode. The latter one allows players to compete against each other in team deathmatches (2 teams, 4 players each). There is also the cooperative mode, in which several players can join their forces to fight powerful bosses.

Technical aspects

The game has been based on Unreal Engine 4 in order for the visuals to recreate the style featured in Sword Art Online animated series.
