Super Toy Cars is an arcade racing game, featuring toy cars and referring to the classics of the genre and brands such as Micro Machines, Death Rally, Re-Volt, Toon Car or Stunt GP. The independent Spanish studio Eclipse Games, founded by experienced developers, but also players who grew up with the aforementioned titles, is responsible for development and publishing of the game.
Mechanics
At the heart of Super Toy Cars is the purely arcade rivalry of toy cars racing on tracks located (just like in the iconic Micro Machines) in four equally toy sceneries. As the game progresses, we will unlock access to another 12 routes and 16 cars. These are characterized by different parameters such as speed, acceleration, grip or weight, which in each case requires a slightly different driving technique from the player. Regardless of this, in the game we are dealing with a purely arcade driving model. The fun is complemented by various bonuses and power-ups that we can pick up on the tracks or buy in the shop and install them permanently in our vehicles. Skillful application of improvements can thwart our rivals and give us victory, turning the tide of more than one race.
Game modes
Super Toy Cars offers a 48-stage career mode, in which we are not only faced with typical racing events. Competition can take place in several different variants, such as classic race, time trial, elimination or avoiding mines scattered along the route. The whole thing is complemented by a friendly multiplayer mode, in which up to 4 players can compete simultaneously in local mode or even up to 8 players via the Internet. The time spent with the game will be significantly extended by the intuitive track editor, with the help of which we can easily design new routes by hand.
Technical aspects
Super Toy Cars is powered by the powerful Unity engine, and the whole thing was realized in full 3D, which enables us to watch the struggle from several different camera angles. Fitting to the subject matter of the game, the visuals have adopted a characteristic cartoonish style.
