Sunset Description
Sunset is a first person narrative adventure game, in which the protagonist is a maid that can play a major role in a wide-scale conspiracy. It has been developed by Tale of Tales studio, established by two developers who previously worked on websites for celebrities and media. They specialize in artistic productions, with the 2009’s The Path being their most known title.
Plot
Sunset for PC takes place in 1972 and fictional South American metropolis. We play as housemaid Angela Burnes, who gets hired by influential tycoon Gabriel Ortega. Each evening she cleans luxurious apartment of her employer, doing tasks from a list left by Ortega. However, she can’t help but to snoop around in his private things, which leads her to a huge discovery. She finds out that her boss is involved in wide-scale political plot that aims to overthrow the military reign that rules that country. What role will Agnes play depends entirely on the player. Developers note that while they were inspired by high budget action movies, they did not look at main characters, but background ones, about whom usually no one cares, even though they play major role in the plot.
Game mechanics
Gameplay of Sunset for PC is completely narrative, without any fights or logical puzzles. Each visit in Ortega’s apartment – happening before titular sunset – includes not only the tasks given by our boss, but also optional activities that let us discover more about the conspiracy and affect our employer’s actions. It must be noted that building our relationships with him is the key element of the game. Each of the mentioned activities can be done in a few ways (neutral, rude, funny or flirting) and Ortega will react accordingly, leaving us a letter or note. Depending on our game style, a single session of Sunset can take from 90 minutes to 6 hours.
Technical aspects
Tale of Tales’ work offers climatic visuals based on Unity engine to complement unique formula of Sunset.
