Summum Aeterna

Mechanics

Summum Aeterna is a side-scroller set in various procedurally generated locations. Worlds are created based on so-called "seed genes", containing various positive and negative modifiers. These affect the kinds of challenges we'll face and the rewards awaiting us. As we progress, we collect "seeds" of various rarity levels, the use of which lets us generate worlds more fitting our preferences and skills.

Traversing the areas, we jump on platforms, avoid traps, obstacles and fight hordes of enemies. Combat is fast-paced, having us face numerous foes and powerful bosses. The player can wield various melee weapons, ranged weapons and combat abilities.

As we progress, we develop the character, unlocking and upgrading skills. Over time we also acquire better equipment and use special gems that upgrade our gear. Though immortal, the protagonist can fall on the battlefield. Once he does, we must start over; though we lose most of our abilities and items, there are some permanent upgrades to unlock that will stay with us through different runs.

Game modes

Summum Aeterna only supports singleplayer. There's a semblance of competition in form of online leaderboards, letting us share our best times with other players. There are rewards for high ranks in form of equippable crowns.

Summum Aeterna retains the series' colorful, cartoonish visuals.
