Steam
A combination of an RPG, a roguelike and a fantasy card game, based on the gameplay of FreeCell and the general rules of Solitaire. In Stray Path everything is displayed as various types of cards - enemies, skills or items. We can move the cards on the game board, as well as store two of them in the inventory for later use.
Stray Path is a production on the border of RPGs, roguelikes, and card games, inspired by FreeCell (a variation of solitaire), as well as Slay the Spire and Inscryption. The game was developed by the independent studio chx games, while its release was handled by Yogscast Games, known for titles such as PlateUp!, Time to Morp or Border Pioneer.
Gameplay
In Stray Path we enter a fantasy world and become adventurers who travel it. Compared to other game of this type, the described title stands out due to its mechanics. It draws heavily from the aforementioned FreeCell.
Solitaire RPG
The gameplay in Stray Path takes place on a board where cards representing all elements of the game are placed. This applies to both combat skills and equipment, as well as treasure chests found along the way, and even the opponents we have to face.
Cards can be moved between fields and arranged on top of each other. There is also nothing to prevent us from peeking at what is under the already revealed cards. We can use this to our advantage, for example by stealing valuables guarded by a monster, and then sneaking out of the location without a fight, using the exit card.
The game also allows us to keep two cards in the inventory. In this way, we can leave for later both the possibility of using a specific skill, weapon or healing potion, as well as postpone opening a chest, and even a confrontation with a specific enemy.
Adventures are generated randomly, which means that each time we encounter different cards. After death, we start a fresh playthrough, with certain upgrades remaining with us in subsequent adventures. Over the course of repeat attempts, we can check various adventurers, which we unlock as we progress.
