Stormdivers is the work of the Finnish studio Housemarque, so far known mainly from arcade action games; in the portfolio of the team we can find such titles as Resogun, Dead Nation, Nex Machina: Death Machine or Alienation. This time the company decided to test itself in a new genre and developed a multiplayer shooter based on the battle royal formula.
Story
The action of Stormdivers is set in the near future. The game takes us to an abandoned island, where violent storms are raging as a result of unsuccessful experiments. Soldiers known as Operators must take into account the threat not only from other daredevils but also from unpredictable forces of nature. However, as a reward, we can find here valuable, exotic equipment.
Mechanics
In Stormdivers we observe the action from third-person perspective. In the course of the game, we play the role of soldiers representing various specializations, fighting with other players to the death. Despite the fact that we start the game only with basic equipment, with time we gain better and better equipment, melee weapons and firearms, as well as about gadgets like shields or jetpack that enables us to cover long distances in the air; additionally, we can use vehicles. The pace of the game is intensified by the fact that the arena, limited by the aforementioned storm, is constantly shrinking, which leads to more and more frequent encounters with adversaries.
Technical aspects
Stormdivers features high quality 3D visuals. The game is powered by the Unreal Engine 4 technology; the devs integrated the engine created by Epic Games with their in-house technolog, Housemarque VFX Engine, which is responsible for special effects.
