Stellar Monarch is a unique 4X strategy developed by Silver Lemur Games, an independent game developer known from a few smaller browser titles, including Europe 1300. The game, previously known as Pocket Space Empire, was released exclusively on PC.
Plot
The action of Stellar Monarch takes place in distant future, in a world where humanity has reached a level of advancement necessary to be able to engage in space travels, as well as to take part in intergalactic politics. The player assumes the role of the Emperor, a person governing the intergalactic empire and maintaining more or less friendly relations with Alien civilizations.
Mechanics
As mentioned earlier, Stellar Monarch represents the 4X genre. 4X stands for: Explore, Expand, Exploit, and Exterminate. The game is characteristic for its lack of micromanagement – the Emperor doesn’t engage in menial tasks such as taking care of single ships or having an input into the growth of smaller administrative branches. Instead, we manage the empire in a more glorified way, through receiving guests, issuing edicts and decrees, or directing espionage.
Aside from official (or unofficial) edicts, our responsibilities include taking care of the technological growth, building fleets that often consist of thousands of units, suppressing rebellions or eliminating enemy factions. The game contains a complex diplomacy system – the galaxy is inhabited by numerous races, including intelligent beings that understand the idea of diplomacy, as well as primitive species that can be dealt with through military might.
Technical Aspects
Stellar Monarch for PC is characterized by simple, two-dimensional graphics. As a result, the game maintains low system requirements, but at the expanse of the visuals, which are clearly inferior to most modern video games.
