Stellar Monarch 2 is the second part of the 4X turn-based strategy series launched in 2016, in which we manage a galactic empire on a macro scale. It was developed by the authors of the original, the Polish studio Silver Lemur Games.

Plot

Stellar Monarch 2 takes us on a journey to the science fiction universe known from the first installment of the series. We take on the role of a galactic emperor managing a feudal superpower spanning hundreds of planets and possessing thousands of space ships. Our task is to take care of order in the empire, cultivate positive relations with friendly factions, as well as turn into dust noble families or entire civilizations that stand in our way.

Game mechanics

The gameplay in Stellar Monarch 2 is based on the foundations laid by the first part of the series. We will not find any micromanagement in the game. As befits an emperor, we do not bother with such trivialities as building farms and factories or conducting space battles. Instead, the management of the superpower here is done on a macro scale, by issuing edicts, receiving audiences and appointing imperial officials (who must be competent and have family connections), as well as setting priorities for technological facilities. From time to time we also come to quell some rebellion.

Since we are not alone in space, diplomacy also plays an important role. While it is possible to reach agreements and alliances with intelligent races, there is no shortage of primitive beasts among our near and distant neighbors, to whom only the argument of force appeals. Besides, even if we do everything as well as possible, there will always be families disloyal to us, as well as traitors and usurpers sharpening their teeth for our throne. We deal with enemies both officially, by waging warfare, and quietly, by hiring assassins. At the same time, it is worth remembering that we, too, can be attacked by the latter, so it is necessary to take care of adequate protection in advance.
