Steel Division 2: Burning Baltics is the fourth major expansion to Eugen Systems Steel Division 2 strategy game released in 2019. The add-on is set in 1944 and takes us to the Baltic Sea, specifically the Latvian territories. It depicts Operation Doppelkopf which is the Third Reich's counter-offensive against the Soviet Union.
Mechanics
Similarly to previous supplements, Burning Baltics does not significantly change the basis of gameplay. The game is still a strategy combining turn-based elements with those played in real time. In turn-based system we manage our army, acquire new units, set tactics and strategy. Skirmishes and battles take place in real time. The expansion contains a lot of new content to deepen the gaming experience.
Eight new divisions have been added to the game, four on each side of the conflict. When playing the Axis countries, we gain access to the historic Grossdeutschland and Nordland divisions, among others. The Allies, on the other hand, have gained the Estonian 7th Rifle Division or the Soviet Podv. Gruppa Fedyunkin. The add-on also introduces more than 120 new units and two air force aces - Hans-Ulrich Rudel and Georgy Zakharov. The changes are crowned by two new playable countries, Lithuania and Estonia.
Game modes
Burning Baltics includes a new story campaign depicting events during Operation Doppelkopf. We can take on the role of German or Soviet forces. As in the main game and previous expansions, the expansion offers single player, network co-op and competitive play.
Technical aspects
Burning Baltics does not change the graphic design of the base game. It is not a standalone expansion, so you need to have the basic version of Steel Division 2.
