Stay Dead Evolution is an unusual action game available on PC that is an original combination of classic fighting and rhythm games. This game is an improved version of the original installment called Stay Dead, published in 2012 on PC / Windows and Mac. Both games have been developed by the independent Italian Brucefilm studios that have previously worked on music videos and commercials

Plot

Like the original installment, Stay Dead Evolution does not feature any distinctive plot, and the entire game focuses on the participation in consecutive interactive sequences, in which a player gets the unique chance to control real actors in spectacular fights resembling those from the best action movies.

Mechanics

According to the developers, Stay Dead Evolutions constitutes the titular evolution of the classic fighting games genre including games such as the Street Fighter series’ installments. The originality of the game lies in the fact that one can experience video sequences featuring real life actors instead of the animated ones. Gameplay has been divided into five stages taking place in different settings, in which one has to face fighters representing five unique combat styles. The mechanics of the controls might resemble those known from the popular music rhythm games – it all comes down to pressing the right buttons at precisely the right time. Even though this aspect creates certain obvious limitations, the creators have made sure to provide each fighter with the biggest leeway possible along with over a hundred blows to deliver.

Technical aspects

The PC release of Stay Dead Evolution is an enhanced version of its original, thus the game features many novelties and improvements that affect the game’s gameplay mechanics, controls, leeway, and better difficulty balance. During the game, a player can unlock the option to acquire points for each performance and gain access to alternative settings, reminding those known from the action movies of the 1980’s and 1990’s.
