Star Trek: The Next Generation - Birth of the Federation is a type 4X strategy that focuses primarily on exploration, expansion, exploitation and extermination. This title is set in the realities of the best-selling sci-fi series Star Trek. However, the technologies presented in this item have been taken from the series The next Generation.
When starting the game, the user chooses one of the five races (Federation, Klingons, Kardas, Romulans, Ferenginii), which he intends to control. This decision has a direct impact on the way the game is played - Klingoni are primarily focused on frequent skirmishes, while the Romulans have excellent diplomacy. Thirty smaller races have also been implemented, which do not participate directly in the game. The user can only take over their planets through military action or negotiation. A peaceful settlement has a positive impact on relations with the inhabitants of these areas. What is more, the addition of land of different races to the owned territory results in the discovery of a bonus in the form of special buildings, which guarantee the player profits.
The morale of people living in conquered areas, as well as their own, is an important issue that must be taken into account. Satisfaction of the inhabitants of the acquired locations makes them develop and are eager to cooperate. However, in the case of a controlled race, depending on which user decides to use it, the information about the military actions started evokes depression or joy. Too much dissatisfaction is a danger of rebellion. Therefore, in order to achieve the goal of creating the largest and strongest empire in the galaxy, the user should enter into non-aggression pacts and pursue diplomacy-based policies or declare war accordingly.
The game takes place on two-dimensional maps showing the solar system, the boundaries of specific locations and the mass of other elements. On the other hand, all battles, which take place in rounds, take place in 3D locations. During the clashes, the user first issues a number of commands, which are executed only after the time lapse option is turned on. The player can give orders to encircle his opponent, shoot him close up or attack him in a group. The type of commands depends primarily on the quality and quantity of the ships owned. Machines differ in many respects (e.g. speed, armour and armour). It is also worth mentioning that especially for the lovers of multiplayer games there is a mode that allows for online skirmishes.
